Ford Now Taking Orders for Electric Focus

In case you haven't heard, Ford is adding an electric variant to its Focus model range for the 2012 model year.... Yeah, it's a pretty big deal. And, while the Ford Focus EV hasn't even started rolling out yet, the American automaker is getting close. The reason, we know: They've just launched a new website dedicated to taking pre-orders.

One of the Focus EV's most compelling specs is the fact that it can charge in roughly half the time it takes the LEAF. No joke - it can obtain a full charge from a 240-volt plug, in just three hours!

Where eco-friendly technology and convenience meet, the Ford Focus EV will start at just under 40 grand. And, buyers in select markets, such as California, may be eligible for a substantial tax credit that would effectively cut the cost to just over 32 grand.

The first areas to get the electric Ford Focus are the states of California and New York. It will then slowly roll out to cities in Georgia, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, Colorado, Florida, Arizona, Oregon, North Carolina, Washington, and the District of Columbia. Of course, you don't actually have to live in these states to buy the Ford Focus EV. The aforementioned states merely represent the markets in which drivers can procure the innovative car.
