The new 2012 Ford Focus is coming soon to Ray Price Stroud Ford LINCOLN in Stroudsburg, PA. But the car is more than your average sedan or hatchback, the Focus is getting an electric variant.
Production of the 5-seat hatchback EV has begun at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant. This is not Ford's first step towards EV - their 2010 Ford Transit Connect is available in EV, it's even built at the same plant.
Focus Focus EV can handle a 100 mile per gallon equivalent (MPGe) range, with only an hour to add 30 miles to its range. The car also features Ford's MyFord Touch and MyFord Mobile information systems.
Under the hood, Focus is powered by a 23 kW lithium-ion battery pack, connected to 130 horsepower motor. The vehicle reaches a top speed of about 84 MPH. Ford says the battery system "uses an active liquid cooling and heating thermal management system to regulate the temperature in the battery. This feature helps to maximize battery life and driving range."1
