2018 Ford Expedition Review

If there's one thing Ford is known for, it's tough vehicles. They were arguably one of the earliest entries into the modern truck-based SUV market with the Bronco going all the way back to 1966, and they've kept up as one of the most respected and reliable truck and sport utility vehicle manufacturers ever since. They're keeping in line with their rightly earned reputation with the newest model of Expedition, which embraces its truck-based frame and offers just about everything you could want in a vehicle of its class.

There's a reason why people in Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, Easton, Nazareth and Lehigh Valley treasure their rough-and-tumble SUVs, and why they respect Ford in particular. Let's take some time to examine the options, trim levels and performance of the 2018 Ford Expedition, and discover where you can test drive one today.

2018 Ford Expedition

In a world where crossover SUVs are all the rage, the 2018 Ford Expedition sticks solidly to its truck-based roots, and to great results. It's far more rugged than your normal full-sized crossover, and can deliver outstanding performance, class-leading towing capacity and great cargo space as well as top-notch technology options.

New this year to the Expedition is improved engine performance, a ten-speed transmission, redesigned instrumentation, and a number of options and packages for add-ons, including a retooling of the extended-length option which is now called the Max.

Trim Levels and Standard Features

There are three trim levels available in the new Expedition: the base XLT level, the Limited and the Platinum. Each is highly customizable, and at the XLT and Limited levels, you can opt for the extended wheelbase and larger cargo area Max configuration.

At its base level, the Expedition delivers seating for up to 8 passengers plus parking sensors, push-button start, rearview cameras, heated mirrors, power driver seat adjustment, power-adjust pedals, and split-row seating in both the second and third row. You also get auto-dim rearview mirror and the Ford Sync voice-control infotainment system with 4.2-inch display, USB charging ports in the second row, Bluetooth, and CD/Satellite sound system with nine speakers, USB and auxiliary ports, and audio controls in the rear.

Upgrade Options

Stepping it up, you can get a range of add-ons and packages which add features like upgraded upholstery, enhanced power adjust seating, power lift gates, heated and cooled seats, remote start, upgraded technology interface with 8-inch touchscreen, WiFi hotspot, wireless charging, 110-volt power jack, GPS Navigation, a range of driver assistance features, upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system with 12 speakers and more.

The base engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 375 hp, and 470 lb-ft torque, driven by a 10-speed automatic in rear wheel or 4WD. This is upgradeable to a 400 horsepower engine which puts out 480 lb-ft of torque. Properly equipped, it can tow over 9,000 pounds, a mind-boggling performance.

Even at the base level the Expedition offers outstanding comfort, able to easily seat up to 8 with plenty of room for driver, passengers and cargo. Stepping it up to the Platinum level, however, really gives you a full luxury experience with leather heated and ventilated seats, 8-way power adjust seating and even power seats in the back. Active noise cancellation and superior suspension ensure a comfortable and serene ride to work or on a long family vacation trip.
